Susan graduated with Distinction from Whitecliffe Art School where she majored in Landscapes and Fibre before taking a degree in English and Art History. She has been teaching for many years. Susan studied Botanical Illustration at West Dean College and Kew Gardens and took a Diploma in Botanical Painting at The English Gardening School. In June 2004 the New Zealand Postal Service used six of her paintings depicting New Zealand-bred garden flowers on an issue of stamps and the First Day Cover.
Her paintings are held in important collections including the Royal New Zealand Navy Museum, the New Zealand Army Museum and the Ashmolean Museum. In 2007 Susan had a solo exhibition of fifty botanical paintings at the Puke Ariki Museum in New Plymouth. Susan has exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society and has won several Medals.
